The pay is sub-par, the hours are incredible and the days off hardly ever show up. Honestly, there are very few things about being a crew member on a tall ship that are nice. I met one of my best friends sailing the bay, I lost one of my best family members while sailing the bay, I learned about my craft, which is schooner cooking while sailing the bay, and it is in Penobscot Bay where i got bitten by the bug - the tall ship bug that is. Penobscot Bay brings back lots of memories. Just my lovely, talented shipmates and their hands and the wind in their sails, that they managed themselves. On Monday we sailed off the hook in Rockland all the way to the hook in Castine, no engines, no pushboat. The first windjammer I worked on had no engines, so sailing round Penobscot Bay silently is nothing new to me, but boy hasn’t it been ages. Yeah, guess we are windjamming, although the comfort level isn't quite up to par with the “real” Maine windjammer fleet. With awesome shipmates, awesome food, and awesome weather. Here we are on a Maine schooner, in the best recreational sailing grounds in the world. The Captain keeps talking about windjamming which is something some of us on board have experience with, myself included. Lobster on a sail training vessel? What is this, the Ritz Carlton? We are receiving lobster and corn on the cob from Dylan’s family. Provisioning day.NO! No more provisioning! That is sort of a lie. It’s also our second to last Tuesday :( I’m going to miss these guys a whole lot. And it was also Taco Tuesday! Tyler made his amazing tacos like usual, they never get old. That wasn't all the events, but most of them. Lokys, Miles, Greta and I went out a second time because we enjoyed it so much, not the best idea since we were freezing, but it was fun. We had to dress up in all our fouly gear, and lay out into the head rig, then get sprayed by the fire hoses which sprayed very cold, salt water, Absolutely insane you totally forgot it was a simulation.

Finally the last competition was foul weather furling up the inner jib sail (squall like conditions). A watch (my watch) won that event which was pretty funny and surprising since everyone’s was very good! We also had to row around Harvey Gamage, sadly though (Lokys, Delilay, Murray) ended up in last place even though the wind increased massively and Lokys’ oar lock broke in half, and had to get towed back by Captain on that one. Then whoever had the most points one 3 points, second place got 2 points, and last place got 1 point, Then we coiled-working coil, and balentine the fastest and prettiest, we had to perform a skit that lasted almost 5 minutes with acting like one of the crew, having to have an accent, and 3 nautical terms involved. Keyes would yell out to a chosen person of your watch, and whoever touched the pin first, with many rules included of course, won a point.

We started off with a race to different pins that Ms. All the procrew got dressed up and played music. Today was Schooner Olympics! We started off pretty early after doing chores as usual.
